Re:          Negotiations Update - Termination of the Collective Agreement

At the start of today’s first meeting with the Conciliator, MTS served Notice of Termination of the Collective Agreement.

This means that if we have not reached an agreement by July 18th, the Company can arbitrarily implement unilateral changes to the terms and conditions of our employment.  Benefits and securities TEAM members have fought for over the past thirty years, and that we now take for granted, could be eliminated or reduced.  An information sheet is available here.

Serving notice to terminate our Collective Agreement is a pressure tactic intended to coerce TEAM members into accepting concessions.  It is not conducive to working together to arrive at a Collective Agreement that meets the needs of MTS and members.

We are bargaining in good faith for the benefit of our members and MTS.  We all have a stake in the success of the Company.  Indeed, four of the five members of our Negotiating Committee are full-time employees of MTS, so are personally impacted by the outcome of these negotiations.  If you too would like to play a more active role in the negotiations please contact the office.

We will keep you updated.
