Negotiations Update - Tentative Agreement Reached

Re:          Negotiations Update - Tentative Agreement Reached


Our Negotiating Committee has reached a tentative agreement with MTS to revise the Collective Agreement.  It was a difficult round of negotiations, particularly as it followed a significant downsizing.  However, both sides made significant movement on their respective proposals to reach this deal.

Other than the removal of a few redundant or unused Letters of Understanding, nothing was given up by our negotiating team, and a number of gains were made.  Vacation, the Voluntary Retirement Termination Incentive Program, Personal Leave Days, the IT pay scale, and the pay structure for Sales all remain unchanged.

Key aspects of the tentative agreement:

  • Three-year agreement
  • 1.5% (retroactive to February 20), 2.0%, and 2.0% on base salary
  • Variable Performance Pay prorated when moving between 2% and 7% plans
  • Northern Retention Premium increased from 5% to 7%
  • Paid parking for members using personal vehicle for work to be reviewed vs abolished
  • Expedited arbitration process for members without pay, including after a layoff


The Negotiating Committee is recommending acceptance of this Agreement.  Information meetings are currently being scheduled.  The ratification vote will be concluded no later than June 3, 2016.
